↑ “IPL 2026: CSK induct Suresh Raina, Matthew Hayden into first-ever Hall of Famee”. England’s two most skilled pacemen, Mark Wooden and Chris Woakes, are out injured, while there shall be limited expectations for captain Ben Stokes’ workload following hamstring surgery. Teams from totally different areas compete for spots in occasions like the Cricket World Cup. Australia’s 412 is the joint sixth-highest complete by a side in ladies’s ODIs, equalling their national report once they made 412-three towards Denmark at the 1997 Ladies’s World Cup in Mumbai. A thrilling collection, which began with a formidable win by Australia before India hit again with their very own complete victory and concluded with this run-fest, underlines why the sides are the two favourites for the 2025 Women’s World Cup. Although Zimbabwe are improving – they’ve simply earned a creditable 1-1 collection draw in Bangladesh – England can be overwhelming favourites to win the 4-day Test when it begins on 22 May. All this after Zimbabwe received the toss and selected to area beneath a leaden sky. At Headingley the day-four pitch was rated 3.7, having obtained easier for batting because the opening day.
But they made the decision harder for the selectors as England piled on 498-three on the first day of the one-off Test, the most runs scored on the opening day of a Test on this country. Ollie Pope stood in as keeper and made runs at number six, Bethell confirmed why England rate him so highly, Shoaib Bashir picked up wickets in the first innings after struggling on the tour of Pakistan and Carse is the discover of the winter. There are usually not many spin bowlers that I must bodily look as much as, but at 6ft 4in, Bashir is considered one of them. It’s not that England are ignoring these performances, they are instead wanting really carefully on the attributes of county gamers and how they will profit the Take a look at staff. Alastair Cook, Root’s predecessor as Test captain, recognised Root’s predicament. I obtained the impression he was fairly badly affected by the Bazball mentality, none extra so than when he was dismissed reverse-scooping Jasprit Bumrah in India.
He had just hoiked off-spinner Wesley Madhevere for his second six when he slapped the identical bowler to quick cowl. Sir Alastair Cook, sitting next to me within the Test Match Special field, really called it as bowler Shamar Joseph was working in. Six Take a look at tons at Lord’s is a joint-document and Root went previous Cook for most Take a look at runs in this nation. Australia have gained 9 consecutive ODI collection since they lost 2-1 to England in the 2023 Women’s Ashes. Later that 12 months, his try to reverse Pat Cummins became one of the vital well-known dot balls in Ashes history. Pope was immediately into his stride, 31 runs probably the most he has ever taken from the first 20 balls of a Test innings. Gavaskar completed not out, however with a paltry 36 runs off 174 balls. He may get there earlier than the summer is out, or in Pakistan in October at the newest. With all due respect to West Indies and Sri Lanka, this summer always seemed like a very good alternative to look to the long run. Brydon Carse remains sidelined with a foot downside and Olly Stone is not going to play before the again end of the summer after his own knee operation.
Woakes has not played yet this season because of an ankle downside, whereas Wood is out until July following knee surgery. The drops have been farcical and out of character. Daryl Mitchell clubbed 84, including forty five for the final wicket with Will O’Rourke, to drag New Zealand up to 254 all out. A year ago, faced with a first-innings deficit of 41, England would have come out in their second innings trying to go ‘bang, bang’ and rating runs as rapidly as possible. So to see him come into this group and make an impression so early on is superb. We didn’t have to see it in the primary Test at Lord’s, as a result of West Indies were rolled over fairly easily, but the second Test required a standard-sense approach to test cricket. By the time the latest reverse induced his downfall, Root had notched extra records in what is going to finish as the most prolific profession England Test cricket, and possibly even the sport as an entire, will ever see. Brydon Carse and debutant Jacob Bethell led England to a powerful eight-wicket victory over New Zealand in the primary Take a look at in Christchurch.
